Sapphire displays,
although not yet mainstream, have managed to grab the attention for its
scratch resistant capabilities. Huawei is the latest company to get on the
bandwagon, with its latest Ascend P7 with sapphire display.
This news comes from none other
than the company chairman Yu Chengdong who uploaded a photo of the sapphire
glass-totting Ascend P7 on his Weibo account.
It was spotted by GSMArena. The company is set to steal
some thunder from Apple, by taking the wraps off the updated Ascend P7 at IFA
2014. Sapphire displays are stronger, hard to crack and less fragile than glass,
easing the problem of damaged phone screens. The hardware and software on the
phone is expected to remain the same as no news of any change has come to the
fore yet.
The current Huawei Ascend P7, was launched
in May, and comes with a 5-inch Full HD display with 1080p resolution protected
with Corning Gorilla Glass 3.The phone is powered by a 1.8GHz HiSilicon Krin
910T quad-core Cortex-A9 processor paired with Mali 450 GPU and 2GB of RAM.
Also included is 16GB of internal storage that can be expanded using a microSD
card.
The device also features a
13-megapixel rear camera with Sony BSI sensor and f/2.0 aperture, a massive
8-megapixel front-facing camera with a BSI sensor and 5-pieces lens that can
take wide-angle photos.
The trend of sapphire displays
was started by Apple, who will reportedly unveil a limited
edition iPhone 6 with sapphire display at its event
on September 9. Following suit, even
Xiaomi is said to have ordered 50,000 sapphire displays from unknown
Korean manufacturers.
